As part of the 2024 Gran Semana Anglo-árabe, held in Seville, Yeguada Almenara Alta received the Breeder of the Year Award, a distinction granted by AECCAá to recognize breeders whose work and legacy have played a key role in the history and development of the Anglo-Arab horse, both through the quality of their horses and their contribution to the breed’s progress.
The trophy was presented during the event’s opening cocktail reception and was accepted by brothers Juan Pedro and Manuel de Soto y Martorell, who currently lead a stud with over a century of family tradition. In their words of thanks, they expressed their emotion at receiving the award and also highlighted the Association’s work in promoting and protecting the Anglo-Arab horse—of which they consider themselves strong ambassadors through their horses. With origins dating back to 1910 at the “Romanito” estate (Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz) and consolidated in its modern era from the mid-1970s, Almenara Alta has become one of the most widely recognized breeders within the breed.
Over the years, it has produced benchmark horses across several disciplines and, more recently, has achieved notable sporting success—particularly in Eventing (Concurso Completo)—with horses performing at both national and international level. This award provides further visibility to the work of breeding and selection, reinforcing the role of historic studs like Yeguada Almenara Alta in strengthening the reputation and projection of the Anglo-Arab in sport and genetic improvement.
